Welcome to our new series “A Day in the Life of” which explores the different departments at Hopewiser and the roles of the personnel working within them. In our first interview we caught up with Adrian, our Production and Bureau Manager.
What is your background how long have you been at Hopewiser?
I have been at Hopewiser for 24 years, which sounds a lot but the average for the bureau team is over 22 years. I started as a Programmer Analyst and have held various positions from Development Manager through to Production and Bureau Manager. Prior to Hopewiser I was employed in the IT segment of the Manufacturing and Finance worlds.
What was Bureau like when you first started?
When I started we offered mainly postcoding with deduplication and some name analysis. Jobs ranged in size from a few thousand to 30 million plus records. Now we offer a whole range of services from our online service, Address Cleanse, to our in-house service which offers analysis prior to the run and checking post run to ensure the customers get the best from what we offer; to bespoke tailored solutions which will not only clean and update your database using the latest address cleaning and suppression products, but can take legacy databases and provide a full data solution for your new system.
We have always used a proprietary database built in-house by our developers. Initially, the data was built quarterly but now dependent on the supply we build daily, weekly, and monthly adding the latest data as soon as we can to our Master Address File. Over the years we have tweaked and rebuilt the software making it much faster in order to meet the demands of the market by offering one of the quickest data loads available.
Given GDPR, how has it moved on?
GDPR to us, is all about accuracy and the ability to pitch your data at the correct contact, this includes suppression files. We ensure not only are your addresses as clean as possible but also that the file has been fully checked against our deceased, goneaways, and marketing preference service files.
Describe a typical day in your job?
No two days are the same. I have to ensure that the data builds are undertaken and are progressing correctly as well ensuring the quality testing is passed. I also take an active part in ensuring that our involvement in client data is going smoothly.
What do you enjoy most in your role?
Variety. I enjoy the unknown and the need to swap hats as needed. I can appreciate that some people like to move at a steady pace but I like to multi-task.
What do you see as the future for Bureau at Hopewiser?
Hopewiser has over 37 years of experience in the business. I am sure it will keep growing as companies appreciate even more the quality, accuracy, and reliability of the services we offer.
